PREPARATION FOR YOUR INTRODUCTORY FLIGHT LESSON

To Schedule Your Lesson...

  1. Just check the Introductory Flight Information box on the front page of this website, and select a time when we are flying that fits into your schedule.
  2. Give us a call at, 847-910-7150. SoftWing Flight,LLC will verify that the weather conditions have not changed and that we are not over-booked for your time.
  3. Then just come on out to SoftWing Flight Park at the agreed upon time.

At Home the day of your lesson

  1. Make sure to dress appropriately for the temperature. Remember that it will be cooler aloft so be prepared. You must be able to secure all loose clothing.
  2. For a sunny day bring sunglasses. However, safety glasses can be provided.
  3. Long hair should be contained.
  4. If a morning flight, don't forget to have a light breakfast before leaving for the airport.
  5. When you arrive at the airport, you will be asked to read thoroughly and sign the Student Pilot Registration and Release Form.  YOU WILL NOT FLY WITHOUT A SIGNED RELEASE FORM.

SoftWing Flight Park, Winfield Airport, Bristol, Wisconsin

  1. Water, Juice or Pop are available at Winfield Airport.
  2. At the airport you will be given and instructed on the use of the following personal protective equipment and communication devices:
    • Safety Glasses
    • Helmet with Headset and radio hookup. This will allow you to speak to the pilot directly while in flight. This will also allow you to listen to your pilot while he/she is in communication with the airport and other aircraft flying within the airport traffic pattern.
    • Student/Passenger 4 point seatbelt harness.
    • Student/Passenger throttle control.

Flight Conditions

  1. Flight Day will consist of CALM to LIGHT WINDS, 10 MPH or Less and Steady.
  2. If after arriving at Winfield Airport there has been a change in weather conditions, the flight may be rescheduled.  We apologize in advance if this happens.
  3. Flights will be normally scheduled in early morning or late afternoon to early evening. The reason is primarily that the wind is usually more calm in early morning before the sun has a chance to heat up the earth, thus creating "thermal" conditions. Likewise, in late afternoon and early evening, the earth begins to cool and the winds begin to calm.  An added bonus, however, may be the beautiful sunrise or sunset viewed from high aloft.
